Sleep

Original acoustic song by Chris Olson.

This was one of the songs to appear on my first E.P. titled "For Emma".

Sleep is a song about long distance relationships and the beautifully cruel nature of them. I wrote the song during one particularly hard summer when I was away from my then girlfriend Emma. She was in Italy whilst I was at home for the summer and we spent as much time as we could talking on the phone.

I hope you enjoy the lyrics for the acoustic song below, as well as a live performance later on in the page.

Lyrics

Verse 1

Here we are, here we are again

I want to think this through

Because it all, it all depends

On what I say to you.

This whole, this whole time

It can be changed

By these words of mine

I might not be strange

Chorus

How do you sleep at night

When I'm not with you

How do you sleep at night

When I'm not with you

How can you say to me

That you're not lonely

How can you lie to me and say

You don't need me

Verse 2

Many times, many times I'd say

Don't worry it will be okay

Because, because I'd wait

And take the next train

We say goodbye and write our names

On each other's skin

Over the phone, we'd play our games

And wait, for each other again

Chorus

How do you sleep at night

When I'm not with you

How do you sleep at night

When I'm not with you

How can you say to me

That you're not lonely

How can you lie to me and say

You don't need me

Bridge

It's not like I'm gone

Or like I'm moving on

Seven days it will go

It's so hard I know

I know, I know

Chorus

How do you sleep at night

When I'm not with you

How do you sleep at night

When I'm not with you

How can you say to me

That you're not lonely

How can you lie to me and say

You don't need me
